  • Pay you at least the national minimum wage or the agreed rate.
  • Ensure you do not work excessive hours.
  • Provide the holiday pay you are entitled to.
  • Give the appropriate notice if your employment ends.

Victims of Modern Slavery or Human Trafficking in the UK

Modern slavery and human trafficking involve being coerced into actions, often through threats or harm. This may include forced labor, being paid less than the minimum wage, being married against your will, or being transported to another country involuntarily.

If you are a victim of modern slavery or human trafficking, you may be eligible to stay in the UK for up to two years, provided you meet the following criteria:

  • You have received a conclusive grounds letter from the Single Competent Authority (SCA), confirming that you are a victim.
  • You entered the UK on an Overseas Domestic Worker visa, as a Domestic Worker in a Private Household visa UK, or as a private servant of a diplomat (under the Temporary Work – International Agreement visa).

Obtaining a Conclusive Grounds Letter

If you believe you are a victim, you should immediately contact the police or a first responder organisation. These organisations can help refer your case to the SCA, which will assess whether you qualify as a victim. Upon their decision, you will receive a conclusive grounds letter.

How to Apply?

Once you receive confirmation that you are a victim of modern slavery or human trafficking, you have 28 days to apply to stay in the UK. The application process is completed online, and there are no fees involved.

If you need help using a computer or accessing the internet to complete your application, assistance is available. Please note, however, that this service does not offer advice on eligibility or specific application details.

What to Do If Your Visa is Refused?

If you apply for a different type of visa but are refused within 28 days of confirmation of your victim status, you can still submit a new application as a victim of modern slavery or human trafficking.
